1000 mile club handbook
Since the launch of the documentary, we have been overwhelmed with inquiries from across the country and even overseas, from employees of correctional facilities, runners who want to volunteer, and people who have loved ones inside who wish that organizations like the 1000 Mile Club were more widely accessible. In the last year, seven new clubs inside adult and juvenile carceral settings have started in Ohio, Colorado and California and the membership of the 1000 Mile Club itself grew to over 100 members and 27 volunteers, with a waiting list of people wanting to volunteer.
All of these factors spurred us to create a handbook, “San Quentin 1000 Mile Club: Transforming Lives Through Running,” an easy-to-read “how to” that offers a road map of how the club at San Quentin was formed and organized. Developed in collaboration with the coaches and runners of the 1000 Mile Club, the book is a practical, hands-on guide for developing new prison running clubs and includes workout samples and forms the club uses to keep organized. Filled with photos from inside San Quentin, the handbook offers testimonials from the coaches and members about the impact of the club on their lives.
In the spirit of service and volunteering, this book is being offered as a free resource. Download your copy today here. Look forward to hearing your feedback!
